GST/HST exemption
GST/HST exemption
last update January, 20th.
Important: Update on the temporary GST/HST exemption for eligible items on the UEAT Online Ordering Platform
To comply with the recently announced GST/HST exemption for the period between December 14th, 2024 until February 15th, 2025, UEAT will carry out a system update that will configure the platform to meet the appropriate new taxation based on the province. In addition, all external channel menus on the UEAT platform will also be updated.
UEAT will launch these changes on Saturday December 14th at midnight for online orders, kiosks and the mobile app, which will be applied instantly. However, the update may take longer to be reflected on external sales channels.
It is your responsibility to check if this program applies to your customers and ensure that all your products impacted by this tax exemption are correctly configured. Please read the checkpoints below for guidance.

December, 16th update:
Based on updated information regarding delivery fee taxation rules, we have removed GST/HST from delivery fees for UEAT orders processed through a third-party delivery service (DoorDash Drive, Uber Direct, etc.). This change takes effect immediately and requires no action on your part.
January, 20th update:
UEAT will resume applying GST/HST to all applicable items under the law starting Sunday, February 16, 2025, at midnight local time. To ensure your integration works properly, all corresponding items in your POS system must also be configured with GST/HST. If you do not update your POS system’s tax configurations, orders may remain open, preventing successful end-of-day reconciliation.
Important checkpoints
If you have a POS integration
We highly recommend that you connect with your POS provider and ensure that your POS system complies to the tax exemption by December 14th.
You need to confirm that the orders going through your POS have the proper taxation. You can manage the tax category of each items in the item edition in the UEAT Backoffice.
For pre-orders, since the UEAT platform always calculates taxes based on the payment date, if an order is placed between December 14, 2024, and February 15, 2025, for a date beyond this period, the tax exemption will still be applied.. Therefore, there is a high chance that the order will be rejected or will not be closed automatically by the system due to tax discrepancies. We strongly suggest you validate all your pre-orders in the UEAT Backoffice.
Item tax category
You should ensure that your products are configured with the correct tax categories in UEAT Backoffice.
For example, if you sell merchandise (e.g., shirts, hoodies, or other items that you believe should normally be taxed), it must be categorized under ‘Non-Food’ or ‘Others.’
HUB menu
HUB menus will be automatically updated with the GST/HST removal and will be published on external channels on December 14th at midnight.
If you experience faulty menus, please reach out the external channel (Skip, Uber, DD) support team so they can delete the menus and then republish the menu directly from UEAT.

Therefore, make sure to validate your pre-orders in the UEAT back office. The UEAT support team may not be able to contact everyone regarding their pre-orders.
Also, the UEAT support will not be able to push the order to the POS system because the tax discrepancies will cause the order to fail each time.
